James Warren Lancaster (d. 1900) from Edgecombe County, NC, entered the University in 1840, became a member of the Philanthropic Society, and graduated with second honors in 1843. He received the MA in 1846. A lawyer, he served in the NC House of Commons from 1854 to 1855.
